I have decided to use this space to share about prison because alot of people do prison time and face huge stigma after getting out, or like really get nailed by the injust American criminal justice system, people fall into it, oftentimes people who were in foster care as children (preschool to prison pipeline). My story is, that, I was adopted in 1994, and I lost my parent as a child, and, not 20 years later, I was sitting in a jail cell.
It often happens that troubled people, kids in foster care, or with issues at home, divorce, abuse, bullying, end up in prison as adults.
I want to shed light on these issues- I mean it happened to me. And I have a degree from a good college!
And there is a huge issue in the US with mass incarceration, with women particularly, and , if you look at other countries, other countries don't have such a issue. So, it is important to highlight this stuff to examine the criminal justice system with a critical eye- is the "justice system " just? Should we focus more on hospitalizing people and not jailing them? Why does America (and Australia) have this history? I'm not a lawyer, but, I did come to head to head with these things and I like to highlight mental health awareness and help people fight stigma, people who were incarcerated and now face homelessness or unemployment.
Thanks for listening to my story , and remember that kindness does not cost anything!! :)
